Recommendations For Photo Editors

Do you take photos with a digital camera or a smartphone? Almost everyone I know has one or both of these wonders. They are so convenient!! There is no worrying about running out of film, so it’s shoot, shoot, shoot photo after photo!

However these modern marvels are so easy to use, you may forget to pay attention to the camera settings. Be that as it may,  you probably will not be aware of any problems until you view the photos on your monitor.

In my opinion, I feel most photos could use some improvements. With this in mind, I recommend using a photo editor or image editor.

Apps

I highly recommend Snapseed 2.0.  It is free, owned by Google, and available for iPhones, iPads and Android devices.  There are a number of great tutorials on “Youtube” for this app. I recommend:

The author of this video, Serge Ramelli, has just under 500 photo retouching videos on “Youtube.”

Online Editors

There are a number of online photo editors including:

Online Photoshop photo editor

Picmonkey photo editor

Pixlr photo editor

I prefer Picmonkey as it has the most overall tools and is the best for fixing images with a color cast. Picmonkey also is great at taking care of “The Big Five” problems described on the right. You simply upload your photo to its website and make the necessary corrections.

Adobe is offering a pay-by-the-month program. See Adobe Creative Plans for information about this program which includes the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom.

Desktop Editors

I recommend Photoshop Elements 5 for about $60 for advanced editing of pictures on your desktop.  You can see examples of what is capable under the “Advanced” menu.  Again, “Youtube” contains many great tutorials for using Photoshop Elements.

Lastly, if you are like me,  you tend to take several hundred photos when on vacation.  Photoshop Lightroom 5 is very capable of easily handling a large number of photo edits.  This software costs around $140.  Check out tutorials on “Youtube” including –

.

Also, I highly recommend looking at Serge Ramelli videos on “Youtube” by typing “Serge Ramelli’ into the “Youtube” search box.

My experience is that 90% of less-than-perfect photos fall into five separate defect categories:

I call this list of defects —

“The Big Five.”

Use the above menu to see examples of image corrections. Hold down your left mouse button and move it back and forth over the image to see before and after results.
